29th December

We had an extra Tuesday in the month so voted for a pleasure match at Kannaviou. In first place was Jim Schofield with 41bs 9ozs; in second place was Ellen Q'Meara with 21bs 11ozs and in third place was Chas Hunt with 11b 12ozs. The pairs were won by Jim & Jackie with a combined weight of 41bs 14ozs. 10 members fished and the total weight caught was 131bs 15ozs. Species mainly comprised of small trout and roach with the odd tilapia. We managed to get packed up just before the rains came.

I have just received an email regarding one of my articles in which I complained about the rubbish left at the dams. The guys (Alien & Hans) responsible for clearing the dams are two keen pleasure anglers, who like us, abhor being surrounded by all the debris. They take bin liners along with them to all the dams and clear it as they go - we have now adopted the same attitude. Many thanks guys!

Just a reminder that fishing licences at 34 euros are renewable from 1st January. This entitles you to fish at any of the dams on the list provided by the Fisheries for the whole year. You will also receive a very useful booklet called 'What you should know about sport fishing in the Reservoirs' .

5th January

Our first open match of the New Year was held at Asprokremnos. In first place was Chas Hunt with 121bs 8ozs; in second place was Peter Heritage with 81bs 8ozs and in third place was Jim Schofield with 71bs 2ozs. The pairs were won by Chas & Derrick with a combined weight of 141bs 13ozs. 11 members fished and the total weight caught was 551bs 7ozs. Peter had a couple of lovely carp in his catch but the remaining species mainly comprised of roach and the odd bass. Not much sign of the catfish! You can no longer drive all the way round the dam as part of the road has collapsed due to the heavy rains.

12th January

We were back at Aspro for a league match. In first place (again) was Chas Hunt with 101bs 13ozs; in second place was Jim Schofield with 81bs 8ozs and in third place was Steve James with 71bs 12ozs. The pairs were won by Chas & Danny with a combined weight of 121bs 6ozs. 12 members fished and the total weight caught was 581bs 13ozs. The total weight caught was not much more than last week. Chas (otherwise known as the tiddler 'basher) does extremely well and always manages to catch far more roach than anybody else. It was a bitterly cold day but this doesn't seem to deter the anglers!

19th January

Fishing this week was cancelled due to heavy rains making the access roads dangerous.

26th January

We were back at Aspro for a league match. In first place was Chas Hunt with 121bs 5ozs; in second place was Jim Schofield with 1 Gibs 2ozs and in third place was Peter Heritage with 91bs 11ozs. The pairs were won by Chas & Athos with a combined weight of 121bs 7ozs. 13 members fished and the total weight caught was 791bs 12ozs. Peter is obviously the master of the carp fishing with most of his weight due to three good sized carp. Tim also had a carp and Rod had a nice bass. Chas & Jim stuck it out for the roach (especially as there are no catfish around) but it does tend to get rather tedious. The water is now up at least 6' making it difficult to get all the pegs together. It's already higher than at any time last year.

We have been informed by the Fishers Dept. that we are not allowed to use keep nets during the spawning season which is February, March & April. I will therefore be writing an article each month on pleasure fishing as opposed to match fishing.
