October saw a change of pace for our intrepid match fishing team with the first match an open held on the 2nd at Everetou Dam, the fishing proved to be hard with the very low water, Polis tackle shop owner Alan Blaine showed the value of local knowledge by easily leading the field with an all roach bag of 5lb 12oz, second was the ever young Sylvia Sawbridge with just 10oz and third was John Whittington with 4oz, nine members blanked (caught nothing) including yours truly!!

October 9th saw 15 members back at the same venue ( only fishermen will understand the mentality of this decision) Alan Blain again demonstrated his ability at Everetou with an outstanding 10lb 8oz of elusive roach, an excellent result when you consider the second weight was just 2lb 10oz caught by Collin Farrer, Sylvia was third with 1lb 8oz. Alan and John Whittington won the pairs. Once again I showed my consistency at this venue by blanking for a second week in a row!!!

The need for a few fish took the club to Polemidia Dam for an open match on the 16th. And this excellent carp venue fished fantastic with top three anglers all exceeding 100lb each. Ray Ayre showed his superiority with a magnificent 132lb 6oz, Steve Duckworth took second place with 117lb, and Ted, a visitor from England, was third with 103lb 6oz, my 57lb could only get me 6th place but thanks to lady luck iwas paired with Ray which gave us almost 190lb to win the pairs. 15 fished for a combined total of 826lb 4oz,...............what a venue!

Not surprising we were back at Polemidia on 13rd for the club match, the weights were slightly down but still exceptional fot the time of year, Steve Duckworth came out top this time with 104lb 4oz, second was Ray Ayre with 75lb 4oz, and Jon Herbron third with70lb. The pairs were won by Steve and Jon Whittington.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November’ Not because it was bonfire night but becouse it was the date for the fishing club Annual general Meeting. While the night sky was lit up with roman candles and ske rockets outside The Old Shsck Pub, inside around 20 of our intrepid anglers discussed various proposals from changes to club rules and membership fees to the state of the dams including the very low water.

Four new faces were duly elected to the committee including myself as Secretary, Sylvia Sawbridge as Treasurer and Ray Ayre with Jon Harbon as joint Match Secretary.
