Dave Wilkinson (our previous club secretary) has now returned to England and we wish him all the very best. I know I will find Dave,s articles a very hard act to follow - but here goes!

We returned to Mavrokolympos Dam on the 6th May and the weather was glorious. Unfortunately Mavro is a difficult dam to fish. When fishing on your own you can have a great day,s sport but when fishing in a match it is an entirely different kettle of fish!. In first place Ray Ayre with 6lb 05oz. Dave Wilkinson came in at second place with 4lb 12oz. Joint third was won by Sylvia Sawbridge and Colin Farrer with 4lb each. The pairs were won by Ray and Road with a total of 7lb 13oz.

13th May found us again at Mavro - the weather again glorious (unlike the fishing). It turned out to be a very difficult day with several anglers not even wetting their keep nets. In first

Place was Richard Grove with 3lb 14oz, second was Paul Lyle with 3lb 06oz, third place to Ray Ayre with 2lb 14oz and in fourth place was Chaz Hunt with 2lb 06oz. The pairs were won by Paul and Richard with a total of 7lb 07oz. As you can see, the weights were not enormous.

20th May and the venue this time was Asprokremnos Dam - the “place of plenty” where several nice carp were caught. I love Aspro - we are always visited by a really large herd of goats and sheep - they come across the hills for their daily fodder. Mind you, if a herd of elephants came across I don’t think the anglers would even notice. They are so engrossed in their fishing! The results this week were much better with Ray Ayre in first place with a magnificent 17lb 6oz. Second place went to Andy Hardy with 12lb 03oz, third place was Lance Chubb with 11lb 08oz and fourth was Jon Harbron with 11lb 02oz. The pairs this week were won by Ray and Vic with a very nice total of 20lb 02oz.

27th May found us still fishing at Aspro and the cat fish were in abundance - the main bait being KiteKat! The total weight caught was 173lb between 19 anglers. A really good catch. In first place was Chaz Hunt(alias the tiddler basher) with a magnificent 19lb 04oz. Second place went to Jon Harbron with 15lb 12oz. Third was Ray Ayre with 15lb 04oz and fourth was Alan Blain with 14lb 04oz - this was Alan’s best result so far and he was deservedly delighted. The pairs were won by Alan and Jon with a brilliant weight of 30lb. A good day was had by all.

As I am merely a spectator and not an angler, I hope this article will make sense to all of you. I generally indulge myself in 5 hours of glorious reading; stopping now and again to take in the concentration and banter of the anglers around me. I also like to take my camper stove and make the occasional tea and coffee. I’m sure it would be easier just to take a flask but it keeps me occupied and out of mischief!

3rd |June and the venue was Asprokremnos dam. The results this week from 19 anglers were: in first place with a fabulous weight of 22lb was Chaz Hunt and considering his average weight per fish was 1oz - this was a remarkable achievement. In second place was Tim Newbury with 16lb 4oz which were mainly cat fish. Third place went to Richard Grove with 15lb 12oz - his catch included a carp on practically his last cast! 4th place went to Jim Schofield with 14lb 8oz. The pairs this week were won by Chaz and Jackie with a combined weight of 28lb 4oz.

10th June found us once again at Asprokremnos and it was extremely windy. The conditions made the fishing difficult. You always seem to get a welcome breeze coming off the dams but this was exceptional. Somebody made the comment that it would be worth taking snorkelling gear with you to retrieve some of the articles that had been blown into the dam - namely Jon’s shoe and Jim’s catapult amongst other things. Also numerous poles were blown along the bank. I even had to put my umbrella down as that was in danger of being blown away. In first place again was Chaz Hunt with 15lb 4oz. His catch included 2 bass and a carp. This was Chaz’s third win in a row. In second place was Ray Ayre with 12lb 6oz, third place went to Colin |Farrer with 11lb 4oz and not far behind him was Athos with 10lb 4oz. The pairs went to Chaz and Mick with a combined weight of 17lb. Ellen, our new member, bettered her own personal record from last week with 4lb 4oz - this included a carp which she was delighted with.

17th June found us at Poemidhia dam. From a spectator’s point of view, this is my leat favourite dam. The entrance is like a rubbish dump with all and sundry tipping their rubbish. The smell is awful, I’m note sure if it comes from thealgae which covers the dam or it might be from the rubbish dump.
