You need a 4x4 to get down to the dam - it is impossible to access it without one. Even then, we did have a problem leaving as Bid D got stuck in the mud and it took best part of an hour to get him out. (As a result of the aforesaid both myself and Big D are going on a 4x4 course). However, having said all that it is extremely good place to fish for carp. The dam is full of them and we always have very good weights when we fish here. The winner this week was Ray Ayre with a magnificent catch of 32lb. Athos came in second with a very good weight of 29lb 12oz. Third place went to Chaz Hunt with 25lb and fourth place went to Jon Harbron with 21lb. All very good weights. The pairs went to Athos and Sylvia with a combined weight of 42lb 14oz. I must mention here that the lady anglers did extremely well, especially Sylvia Sawbridge who caught an amazing 13lb 2oz - one of her best weights to date. Jackie had 9lb and Ellen again bettered her previous personal record with 8lb 4oz. I also want to mention that ‘Mickey no fish’ had 9lb 4oz. He had changed his tactics and now uses a pole which might account for his brilliant catch.(he will no longer be called Mickey ‘no fish’) The total anglers this week was 14 so they all managed to fish on the same side of the bank.

24th June was Polemidhia again - and not without mishap! This week Jon had two flat tyres which he changed with his spare and fortunately another member driving the same type of vehicle gave him his spare. The results this week were excellent. In first place again was Ray Ayre with a magnificent catch of 41lb 12oz. Second place went to Athos with 28lb 12oz, In third place was Vic the pole with 21lbs and in fourth place was Chaz with 20lb 12oz. The pairs this week were won by Ray and Jackie with a fantastic combined weight of 57lbs. Ellen also had a weight of 18lbs which included a wonderful 6lb carp - it took her nearly an hour to bring it in but she didn’t let it beat her!

30th June and we were back at Aspro. The weather was wreaking havoc with very high winds causing waves that were quite fierce. (it was like fishing at Blackpool beach in the winter). Some of the anglers got soaked and three of them also lost their metal nets. Jackie also lost the top two sections of her pole. Simon Emery of Deals on Wheels has donated several tee shirts for the winner and this week it went to Alan Blain with 13lb 8oz. In second place was Jon Harbron with 12lb 8oz and in third place was Ray Ayre with 9lb 8oz, Athos again featured in the top four with 8lb 12oz. The pairs were won by Jon and Alan with 26lbs.

We returned to Aspro Dam on 8th July and the weather was glorious - it was really very hot and one or two of the anglers erected their umbrellas. The water has gone down quite a bit but there are still plenty of fish to be caught. The licence people paid us a visit today and I’m happy to say that all the anglers had their licences with them. Peter has bought a Maver ‘all singing - all dancing’ fishing box (which also receives Radio Luxemberg!) he used it for the first time today. In first place this week was Jon Harbron with 15lb 12oz; in joint second place were Athos and Ray with 14lb each and in fourt h place was Jim with 12lb 12oz. Jim lost his normal quoa of hooks to the cat fish - another excuse to visit Alan’s shop to renew his stock and have his customary ‘cup of tea’ and a chat about fishing! The pairs were won by Jon and Jackie with a combined weight of 23lb 10oz. Jackie caught a beautiful carp.

15th July and the venue was ‘smelly’ Polemidhia - the land of the carp! The sun shone relentlessly with very little wind. There were 15 anglers and it was decided to peg 8 one stretch and 7 round the corner. Obviously it was the luck of the draw but bigger weights were caught round the corner. This week we had joint winners Ray and Lance with a quite magnificent 82lb each. In third place was Chaz(the tiddler basher) with 73lb and in fourth place was Athos with 34lb 8oz. The pairs this week were won by Jackie and Lance with a fantastic weight of 114.8oz.

22nd july found us again at Polemidhia. This dam is also the home of the Cyprus Water Skiing team where they practise most days/ As usual, the tinkling of the bells announced the arrival of the goats venturing down to the dam edge for a drink. In first place was Chaz with 64lb 8oz, second was Ray with 48lb;third was Jon with 43lb and fourth was Sylvia with 41lb 8oz - one of Sylvia’s best weights to date. The pairs were won by Ray and Sylvia with 89lb 8oz.

29th July and the venue was Evretou which is a beautiful dam. The only problem is the hornets! There are hundreds of them and they have a very nasty sting which Jim can vouch for. This was his ony ‘bite’ of the day! (the hornets love the ground bait so its best to throw some far away from you). Unfortunately it is a very difficult dam to fish with many of the anglers ‘blanking’. Colin Farrer won with 2lb 12oz; and was awarded the orange jersey;second was Athos with 2lb,third place went to Chaz with 1lb 15oz and fourth place went to Tim with 1lb 4oz. The pairs were won by Tim and Colin with 4lb.
