Just the luck of the draw! In first place was John Sutton with 15lbs 2ozs, second place went to Lance Chubb with 12lbs 7ozs and Steve Duckworth came third with 8lbs. The pairs were won by John and Jim with 15lbs 2ozs. Total weight caught was 67lbs 15ozs. 8 anglers blanked.
18th November open match was held at Evretou where a total of 12 members fished. As per usual the dam didn’t match fish very well although it is completely different when just one or two go along. In first place with 4lbs 14ozs was Richard Grove. Joint secend place went to Alan Voss and John Sutton with 3lbs 2ozs each. Alan was delighted as he is just over on holiday for a couple of weeks. The pairs were won by Richard and Alan with 8lbs. Total weight caught was 13lbs 14ozs with 4 anglers blanking.
25th November we returned to Evretou for the second winter league match. A total of 14 members fished and we were lucky to be able to fish there as the heavens had opened for the previous two days making the approach quite slippery. Fortunately the sun had come out again and had dried up the puddles. Unfortunately the rains had made little difference to the levels of the dam water. In first place was Chas Hunt with a really magnificent catch of 12lbs 10ozs (his catch was made up of beautiful roach). In second place was Jackie Blaine with 1lb 9ozs and third place went to Lance Chubb with 1lb 8ozs - just 1oz behind Jackie. The pairs were won by Chas and Alan V with 12lbs 1oz. Special mention to Sylvia who was the only person to catch on her stretch! All three lady anglers caught and a total of 7 member blanked including “birthday boy Jim” who will not want to remember this particular birthday! (Ithink his maggots are past their sell-by-date). Total weight caught 18lbs 3ozs
2nd December open match was held at Asprokremnos. Dam - a total of 15 members fished but due to lack of water 7 places were pegged near the dam wall and the other 8 were pegged in the opposite bay. The heavier weights were caught by the anglers at the dam wall and the winner was Chas Hunt with 10lbs 10ozs, second place went to Ray Ayre with 8lbs 2ozs and third place went to Athos with 7lbs 15ozs. Jackie Blaine came in 4th with 4lbs 8ozs. Jackie fished in the opposite bay and was the only one to catch a carp on that side. The pairs were won by Chas and Jackie with 15lbs 2ozs. Total weight caught was 49lbs 2ozs.
9th December winter league match at Asprokremnos. I was back in the UK during this match so can only write a sketchy report. The winner was once again Chas Hunt with 10lbs 10ozs, Jim Schofield was second with 9lbs 2ozs and third place went to Athos with 9lbs. The pairs were won by Vic and Athos with a combined weight of 13lbs. A total of 14 members fished and the total weight caught was 55lbs 3ozs.
16th December and an open match was held at Polemidhia. A total of 14 anglers fished. In first place this week was John Sutton with a very worthy 20lbs 8 ozs, second place went to Ellen O’Mears with a wonderful bag weighing 17lbs - this included 3 really lovely carp. Third place went to Ray Ayre with 15lbs 10ozs. The pairs were won by Jackie and John with a combined weight of 28lbs 3ozs. Total weight caught was 144lbs 3ozs. Not too many mishaps this week but Steve James’s rod was snapped in half by a large carp!
23rd and 30th December These matches due to take place, were cancelled due to bad weather..
