Tuesday 5th May
This week was the beginning of our summer league and we fished a practice match at Aspro. In first place was Chas Hunt with 111bs 7ozs, in second place was Colin Farrar with 71bs and in third place was Jackie Blaine with 6lbs. The pairs were won by Chas and Vie with a combined weight of 141bs 2ozs. A total of 9 members fished and the total weight caught was 50lbs 11ozs It was extremely windy today which made the fishing conditions very difficult. Jackie had two 'cats' in her catch which was a good sign. It means they must now be coming out of hibernation. Plenty of silver fish about. A couple of carp were hooked but got away before they could be landed!
Tuesday 12th May
We were back at Aspro for the first of our summer league matches. The weather conditions were entirely different to last week. The sun was shining very strongly but unfortunately it's a signal to the flies who appeared in their masses. In first place was Chas Hunt (again) with 81bs 3ozs, in second place was Steve James with 41bs 8ozs and in third place was Jackie with 41bs 7ozs. The pairs were won by Chas and Peter with a combined weight of 121bs 8ozs. A total of 14 members fished and the total weight caught was 431bs 8ozs. (Last week only 9 members fished and their total was higher than this weeks). Chas had a carp in his catch which weighed 41bs 12ozs - the biggest single fish caught this year. Well done Chas.
Tuesday 19th May
This week we fished at Polemidhia which entailed a long walk for most. We managed to peg a few at the river end but the rest were about 300 yards away. In first place was Brian Bessett (one of our overseas members) with a magnificent 671bs. In second place was John Sutton with 461bs 6ozs, in third place was Steve Duckworth (another overseas member) with 451bs and in fourth place was Jim Schofield with 40lbs - Jim just pipped Jackie by a mere 4ozs - she came in fifth with 391bs 12ozs. Well done Jackie yet again. The pairs were won by John and Jackie with a combined weight of 861bs 2ozs A total of 17 members fished and the total weight caught was 4111bs 10ozs - a brilliant weight with the majority of anglers beating their personal best for the season. There were lots of biting insects about so you had to make sure you were well covered with insect repellent.
Tuesday 26th May
Back at Polemidhia for the second of our summer league matches. The order of the day was to carry as little as possible as everybody was now aware of the long walk that they had encountered last week. In first place was Jim Schofield with an impressive catch of 661bs 09ozs. In second place was Jackie Blaine with 431bs 12ozs and in third place was Steve James with 371bs 08ozs. The pairs were won by Jim & Rod with a combined weight of 781bs 09ozs. A total of 16 members fished and the total weight caught was 3991bs 13ozs
